Abdul Azeem Khan

Abdul Azeem Khan is an award-winning British writer-director-producer. Born in Peshawar, Pakistan, Azeem moved to England at the age of five. Growing up in East London, Azeem opted for a career as a film-maker in his teens and graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University's Film & TV School in 1989 with a 2:1.

His debut as a professional film director came with Pepsi and Whirlpool network television commercials for Ogilvy & Mather and J. Walter Thompson's affiliated advertising agencies in Karachi, Pakistan. Azeem was also producer on over thirty other television commercials, as well as copywriting a LU Gala Biscuit commercial that was so popular it ran for over 15 years on prime-time network television in Pakistan, virtually unchanged in its concept.

On return to the UK, Azeem produced powerful television and radio documentaries for the BBC and ITV, working on the Synchro arts series, Black Britain, First Sight, the BBC1 Ramadan series and Inside Out.  He was also part of the creative team at leading independent production companies such as Brook Lapping, Roger Bolton, Baby Cow, Partners in Production, Mountain of Light and others.

Azeem has produced, written and directed many short drama films and documentaries, including the award-winning drama "Open Secrets", starring the late BAFTA nominee Saeed Jaffrey OBE on mental health, and the critically acclaimed psychological thriller "Disorder", about paedophilia.

His novel "The Nature of Flames" was published by Chipmunka in 2011. Azeem has written four feature length film screenplays, of which “Essex Crystal”, “Watching the English”, “Mo the Grass” and "Hidden Colours" are currently in development with producers. Although Azeem Khan is a producer-writer-director, he has professional experience as a cameraman, sound recordist and video editor.

Azeem is also currently in development with a documentary film about boxing, and an original feature film spoof documentary-drama about politics.

Azeem is married with twin children and lives in London.
